After earning his MD at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), Dr. Ferro continued on to fulfill his internship there as well. The university also awarded him a research fellowship in orthopedic surgery. He completed his residency at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque.

Dr. Ferro earned an additional fellowship in joint replacement and adult reconstructive surgery at the prestigious Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute in Arlington, Virginia. There, he trained with Dr. Charles Engh, a world-renowned authority on joint replacement and pioneer of innovations in joint replacement surgery. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
